CINCINNATI — Yoshinobu Yamamoto was in complete control all afternoon, and the offense gave him more than enough to work with, as the Dodgers blanked the Reds 4-0 at Great American Ball Park to stay hot with a playoff spot already locked up. Los Angeles improved to 92-59 on the season.
Feduccia Gets It Started
Los Angeles broke through in the second. Max Muncy was hit by a pitch and Tommy Edman singled to put two on, and Hunter Feduccia lined a single to center to bring home Muncy, making it 1-0. Alex Freeland struck out and Josue De Paula grounded out to strand the other two runners, but the Dodgers had the lead they wouldn’t give back.
Teoscar’s Blast Doubles the Lead
The lead grew in the third. Kyle Tucker drew a walk, and Teoscar Hernández turned around a line drive homer to left, his 15th of the year, that scored Tucker and pushed it to 3-0. Max Muncy struck out to end the inning, but the damage was already done against Rhett Lowder, who would last just five innings.
Yamamoto in Complete Control
Yamamoto did the rest, working seven innings and allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking two. He faced only one real threat, working around a leadoff double from Elly De La Cruz in the third, and never let Cincinnati’s offense find any rhythm the rest of the way. It was a clean, efficient afternoon from start to finish.
Freeland Tacks One On
Los Angeles added a bit more cushion in the seventh when Alex Freeland went deep to left for a solo homer, his fourth of the year, making it 4-0 and putting the game further out of reach. Freddie Freeman singled right after, but Mookie Betts flew out to end the inning.
Bullpen Finishes the Shutout
Brock Stewart worked a clean eighth after taking over for Yamamoto, allowing a single but nothing more. Tanner Scott struck out three in the ninth to close out the combined shutout, sealing a 4-0 win for a Dodgers team that keeps rolling since clinching its playoff spot last night. Teoscar Hernández has now homered in back to back games and continues to be one of the hottest bats in the lineup down the stretch.
