LOS ANGELES — Justin Wrobleski’s night ended early, and Washington made him pay for it, building a three run cushion that the Dodgers had to claw back from. Twice. Mookie Betts, however, made sure the final chapter belonged to Los Angeles, launching a go ahead three run homer in the eighth that turned a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 win at Dodger Stadium.
Wrobleski’s Short Night Opens the Door
Wrobleski worked around some traffic in the early innings, striking out six along the way, but the fourth got away from him fast. CJ Abrams led off with a solo homer to tie the game, and Washington kept the line moving from there without much resistance.
Brady House and Daylen Lile both singled, Harry Ford ripped a double to score two, and Jacob Young followed with a single of his own to make it 4-1. Wrobleski’s night ended after three innings, and the Dodgers were suddenly playing from behind against a lineup that wasn’t missing much.
Dodgers Claw All the Way Back
Los Angeles didn’t panic. Max Muncy had already put a run on the board in the third with a leadoff double that came around to score, and in the fifth the Dodgers strung together four straight hits to erase the rest of the deficit. Muncy started it again with a single, and Tommy Edman doubled him home.
Will Smith singled home Edman, and Teoscar Hernández followed with a single of his own to score Smith and tie the game at 4-4. Four straight Dodgers reached base in that inning, and for a moment it looked like Wrobleski’s rough night might not matter at all.
Washington Answers Right Back
The Nationals didn’t stay quiet for long. Daylen Lile tripled to open the sixth and Harry Ford drew a walk, setting the table before James Wood was intentionally put on to load the bases for Dylan Crews. Crews got hit by a pitch that forced in the go ahead run and put Washington back on top 5-4.
It felt like the kind of blow that could hang over a bullpen for the rest of the night, the Dodgers trailing again after just tying things up.
Mookie Betts Delivers the Blow
Bobby Miller and the Dodgers bullpen kept the deficit at one, giving the lineup a chance to strike again in the eighth. Alex Call singled to open the inning, and Tommy Edman drew a walk after a replay review confirmed the call, putting two runners on for Betts.
He didn’t miss. Betts drove one out to left center for a three run homer that flipped a 5-4 deficit into a 7-4 lead and sent Dodger Stadium into a frenzy, the kind of swing that turns a back and forth grind into a signature win.
Bullpen Locks It Down
Washington got one more run back in the ninth, but it never threatened the outcome. Edgardo Henriquez came on to close it out, working around a walk and a Dylan Crews strikeout before finishing the job for the save.
Bobby Miller picked up the win after three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and it came in his 2026 debut, a milestone after a season spent working his way back from injury.
It was the kind of stretch that bridged the gap between a rough start from Wrobleski and the big swing that decided it, and a fitting way for Miller to reintroduce himself.
