LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers continued their late-season surge Tuesday night, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 127–113 at Crypto.com Arena while officially clinching a playoff spot. Behind a dominant performance from Luka Dončić, Los Angeles pulled away after a competitive first quarter and never looked back.
With postseason positioning now locked in, there was added energy in the building as LeBron James was upgraded to available prior to tip-off while Luka Dončić made his return from a one-game suspension.

The Los Angeles Lakers (49–26) entered on a three-game winning streak following a 120–101 win over the Washington Wizards, where LeBron James recorded his 125th career triple-double.
The Cleveland Cavaliers (47–28) had also won two straight, including a comeback victory over the Utah Jazz, as they continued to push for positioning in the Eastern Conference standings.
Cleveland came out sharp, opening the game on a 6–0 run and taking a slight edge early as the Lakers struggled with defensive rotations and closeouts. Despite the early defensive lapses, Dončić carried the offensive load, scoring 14 points in the opening quarter to keep Los Angeles within striking distance. The Cavaliers held a narrow 34–32 lead after one.

The Lakers responded in a big way in the second quarter, tightening up defensively and finding rhythm offensively. A dunk from Jake LaRavia sparked a run that gave Los Angeles control, and the lead quickly grew to double digits. The Lakers outscored Cleveland 33–19 in the quarter, taking a 65–53 lead into halftime behind Dončić’s all-around effort and strong interior play from DeAndre Ayton.

Any hopes of a Cavaliers comeback were erased in the third quarter, as the Lakers completely took over. Dončić continued his dominant night, pushing his total past 30 points while orchestrating the offense with ease. Los Angeles exploded for a 45–30 quarter, extending the lead to 110–83 and effectively putting the game out of reach.

The Lakers maintained control throughout the fourth quarter, never allowing Cleveland to seriously threaten the lead. Dončić capped off his performance with 42 points and 12 assists, leading a balanced effort that saw multiple Lakers contribute as Los Angeles secured the 127–113 victory.

Dončić finished with 42 points, five rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his seventh 40-point game of the season while also becoming the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach 15,000 career points. LeBron James added 13 points and six assists while also surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most wins in NBA history, adding another milestone to his historic career.
With the win, the Lakers improved to 50–26, clinched a playoff berth, and continued their strong push toward the postseason, having now won 16 of their last 18 games. They will next travel to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.
