HOUSTON — The Los Angeles Lakers rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat the Houston Rockets 100–92 Monday night at the Toyota Center, using a dominant second-half defensive effort and a 15–4 closing run to secure their sixth consecutive victory.

The game opened at a high pace, with both teams trading baskets throughout the first quarter. Luka Dončić set the tone early, scoring 16 points in the opening frame as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Houston Rockets 29–28 after one.

The second quarter continued in a similar rhythm before momentum began to shift in Houston’s favor. The Rockets capitalized on second-chance opportunities and interior scoring, building a lead late in the half. Despite Dončić’s continued efficiency, Los Angeles struggled to contain Houston in the paint, and the Rockets closed the half on a 13–6 run to take a 57–51 advantage into the break.

After trailing 57–51 at halftime, Los Angeles flipped the momentum in the third quarter. The Rockets extended their lead to seven early in the period, but the Lakers responded by chipping away before an 11–2 run tied the game at 72 with just under four minutes remaining in the quarter. Moments later, LeBron James gave the Lakers the lead at the free throw line, sparking a larger 23–7 surge that put Los Angeles in control.

Despite being outplayed in the paint and on the offensive glass for much of the game, the Lakers made key defensive adjustments in the second half. Los Angeles forced 24 turnovers and held Houston to just 35 points after halftime, limiting the Rockets’ ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities.

Those turnovers proved costly for the Rockets, as the Lakers consistently converted those mistakes into momentum shifts in the game.

After struggling with second-chance points early, Los Angeles flipped the game by forcing turnovers and controlling the tempo in the second half.

Luka Dončić led the charge throughout the night, finishing with 36 points, six rebounds and four assists. After scoring 16 points in the opening quarter, Dončić continued to deliver key baskets late in the third, including back-to-back three-pointers that helped extend the Lakers’ lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter remained tightly contested, with Houston briefly reclaiming an 88–85 lead midway through the period. However, the Lakers responded once again behind their defensive pressure down the stretch. With just over two minutes remaining, Marcus Smart knocked down a crucial three-pointer to give Los Angeles a 94–90 advantage.

From there, the Lakers closed the game on a decisive 15-4 run, highlighted by an Austin Reaves steal that transitioned into a late dunk from James, effectively sealing the victory for the purple and gold.

Contributions from Austin Reaves and LeBron James helped stabilize the offense, particularly during key stretches in the second half.

The Lakers entered the matchup riding momentum following a hard fought 127–125 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, a victory that secured the season series and reinforced the team’s growing identity. With Monday’s win, Los Angeles improved to 43–25 and extended its recent surge to nine wins in its last ten games.

The Rockets, who fell to 41–26, were coming off a win over the New Orleans Pelicans and are in the middle of a five-game homestand. Houston controlled much of the first half behind strong interior play and second-chance scoring, finishing the night with a significant advantage in points in the paint.

With the victory, the Lakers strengthened their position in the Western Conference standings and moved further ahead in the race for home-court advantage in the playoffs, avoiding ground in an increasingly tight postseason picture.

Los Angeles will remain in Houston for the second game of the back-to-back set as they continue their push toward the postseason. With both teams separated by a narrow margin in the standings, Wednesday’s rematch will serve as the season tiebreaker, adding even more significance to an already critical late-season stretch.
