DENVER — The Los Angeles Lakers arrived in Denver riding a three-game winning streak, but Thursday night’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets presented a far more demanding test. With the Western Conference standings tightening and playoff positioning growing more urgent, Los Angeles entered Ball Arena looking to see whether the defensive focus and rhythm rediscovered during its recent stretch of wins could hold up against a proven contender led by Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray.
The Lakers erased a double-digit deficit and briefly threatened to steal control late in the fourth quarter, but the Denver Nuggets held firm down the stretch to secure a 120–113 victory Wednesday night at Ball Arena.

The Lakers made their strongest push in the fourth quarter. Hayes capitalized on several interior opportunities while Los Angeles ramped up defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition points.
A three-pointer from Marcus Smart with under five minutes remaining cut the deficit to four, and moments later the Lakers pulled within a single point with just over two minutes to play. However, the Nuggets delivered the final answers. Back-to-back possessions from Nikola Jokić restored separation, and Denver closed the door before Los Angeles could complete the comeback.
The Lakers showed resilience after trailing most of the night, but ultimately could not overcome Denver’s early momentum and perimeter shooting. The loss drops Los Angeles to 37–25 and keeps them chasing Denver in the tightly packed Western Conference standings, where every late-season matchup carries significant playoff implications.
Los Angeles now returns to host the Indiana Pacer Friday night in the second night of a back to back, as the Western Conference race continues to tighten.
